Parcel Number Format Explanation

Snohomish County, WA

Parcel Numbers Each piece of real property in Snohomish County is assigned a unique fourteen (14) digit identification number called the 'Parcel Number'. On occasion you may see or hear a reference to Property Account Number or Tax Account Number, but they are all one and the same.

Parcel Number Format: The format of the parcel number is predicated upon the type of property to which it is assigned, 'platted' or 'acreage'.

Platted Parcel Number Format: Each formal plat / subdivision created in Snohomish County is assigned a six (6) digit 'major' number. (The lowest plat number is 003700.)
Each block in a subdivision is assigned a number from 000 to 999 which corresponds to block number assigned in the subdivision recorded documents.
Each lot in a subdivision block is assigned a number corresponding to the lot number assigned in the subdivision recorded documents.
Occasionally lots are sub divided further or in some instances it is necessary to create parcels associated with the original parcel such as for a manufactured home. Sub lots are assigned a value of 00 to 99.

Platted Parcel Number Example: Parcel Number 00374100800203
003741 008 002 03
Subdivision/Plat Block Number Lot Number Sub Lot Number

Acreage Parcel Number Format: The parcel number assigned to acreage accounts (non platted property) is based upon their geographic location in the county as described by the Township, Range, Section and Quarter Section in which they are located.
Acreage Parcel Number Example: Parcel Number 27031300300100
27 03 13 003 001 00
Township Range Section Quarter Section Parcel (Equivalent to Lot) Sub Lot Number

History: On July 10, 2000, Parcel Number was converted to the format as described above.
'Old' platted parcel numbers were converted by adding two leading zeros to the beginning of the parcel number (allows for 99,999 major plat number, up from 9,999) and dropping the last two digits of the parcel number.
'Old' acreage parcel numbers were converted by rearranging the order of the first six digits of the parcel number, inserting two zeros into 'quarter section' location and again, dropping the last two digits of the parcel number.
All to:
  • Keep the parcel number at its original length
  • Have an identical 'structure' between platted and acreage parcel numbers (was not true in the 'old' format
  • Have the same hierarchy within the structure of the parcel number starting with the 'greatest' component and finishing with the smallest, i.e. Plat, Block, Lot, Sub.
  • Platted Parcel Number Example: Old Parcel Number 37410080020300
    3741 008 002 03 00
Subdivision/Plat Block Number Lot Number Sub Lot Number Computer Check Digit

Acreage Parcel Number Example: Old Parcel Number 13270310010000
    13 27 03 1 001 0000
